2010 is the year of a complete discipline overhaul for me. I am keeping a schedule, going to bed at a decent hour, exercising regularly, having time with God at the same time everyday, clipping coupons and meal planning. I have been doing so well cooking a planned out meal every night! I have also been trying new recipes!
Last night I decided to make a double batch of a new recipe of white chicken chili. I was going to freeze the left over for a busy night. All was going so well until I realized that the beans weren't as soft as I would like. It was already 5:30 so I turned up the heat a little and added a bit more water so they wouldn't dry up. Suddenly my kitchen was filled with white smoke and the MOST HORRIBLE SMELL! I think that since it was a double batch and the pot was so full, the heat was too high. The whole batch of soup was ruined.
I have not ruined a meal in FOREVER so I was so mad at myself. I actually got a little weepy at the thought of throwing 3 pounds of chicken in the trash!! My husband laughed at me while I stomped my feet, threw a wooden spoon in the sink and angrily made grilled cheese and tomato soup. The kids couldn't have been happier with the gourmet meal they ended up with!
Today everything has a stale cigarette smell. I never knew that burnt chicken chili would smell like that and it makes me wonder what Leah's teacher will think when she smells like an ash tray today!!

Oh gosh. This reminded me of Julie and Julia- and I LOVED that movie! Sorry about all the wasted food, that would have upset me too.
Oh sweetheart... I am so glad you don't have to experience that "I cannot believe I have to throw away another meal" thing as often as I do, ha ha!
Seriously?!?! We were going to make white chicken chili for dinner tonight but settled for leftovers. We LOVE the recipe though - I'm sure it will turn out great next time!
Thanks for linking up (ironic that I shared a story about my kitchen misfortunes this week too!)
Oh no! That never happens to me...but only because I don't cook much! haha! That is a bummer...but sounded so good! It will be perfect next time! And I sure need to get my meal plan together...sounds like you're doing great! thanks for sharing...hopefully it was funnier now that you've told us the story ;)
